I’m a big believer in following your dreams. Find your passion, your mission, your why and make it happen. That said…I agree with Walt that you have to have courage to pursue them. I also believe that you must also continue to grow those dreams and develop them and you do that by continually learning and growing.
Keep Learning
This week I gathered with over 400 fellow dream followers, aka dance studio owners, down at Disney World with the organization More Than Just Great Dancing. We spent the week sharing ideas and solving problems.
Some of the attendees have been in business for over 50 years. Some are just starting out. And some, like me with Liberty Dance Center, are celebrating milestone years somewhere in between.
But no matter where we are in our business owning journey, we all have this in common: We all believe that you MUST keep learning.
There’s a saying we use often, that “the Master says thank you for the reminder.” I know there are many things I don’t know or do know but could improve on. There are also things that I know and do very well and then it is my duty and responsibility to share that with others and help them grow.
Continue to Grow
I hope my students back at the studio are missing me this week (but also enjoying their subs!). But most importantly, I hope that they truly see what I am doing and modeling for them. I hope they see that even though I have been doing this for longer than some of them have been alive, I am not done learning. I will never be done learning.
And I hope they take that and apply it to themselves. So whether they are a teen that has been taking ballet for 10+ years, they know and understand that they will never NOT do plies in class. I hope the 8 year old in their 6-8 year old class sees that even though they are the oldest in their class, there is still LOTS to learn.
What a gift it is to be able to continue to grow. The journey never ends, we can always improve and become better and that is just plain awesome and oh so fun.
Surround yourself with people that challenge, support and inspire you. If you aren’t growing, you’re dying. Learn something new every day. Get 1% better everyday. And pursue those dreams that are in your heart.
